Veterans’ Day & New Flag

This Veterans’ Day, our residents were proud to hoist up a brand new American flag on our flagpole. The flag which they purchased replaced a well-loved, but weather-worn flag.

At 11:00 on the 11th day of the 11th month, we held a brief ceremony to raise the new flag. A uniformed bugler played the appropriate tunes for the occasion. We had a moment of silence to reflect on how thankful we are for our freedoms, and the men and women who have served bravely to protect those freedoms.

Following the flag ceremony, we proceeded to our Library to view some short films honoring veterans and share personal veterans’ stories with one another. We concluded in grand fashion with a viewing of Kate Smith’s famous performance of “God Bless America” in the 1943 movie, “This is the Army”. It’s worth watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmfeNq5x5aQ

Here at Wood Glen Hall, veterans are important to us. Several of our current residents have served in the military, and many other residents had a spouse, parent, or child who served. We encourage the sharing of veterans’ stories, and wish to honor those who have served. This Veterans’ Day, all of our veterans were presented with certificates of appreciation, and each event described above was done in gratitude for their sacrifices.
